Why get a private ADHD assessment?

Fast access, without the wait

Going private isn’t about jumping a queue for its own sake. It’s about not losing any more time to something that’s already been shaping your day-to-day life.

The longer ADHD goes undiagnosed, the more it tends to shape things around it: missed deadlines read as carelessness, relationships strained by things you can’t quite explain, years spent wondering why everyday tasks feel harder for you than for everyone else. A diagnosis doesn’t undo any of that, but it opens the door to support that actually fits, and most people tell us they wish they’d done it sooner.

  • No waiting list. Seen the same week or the following week, most of the time
  • If medication could help, we can start it directly, with no separate wait to see a prescriber once you’re diagnosed
  • One team, start to finish, with ongoing medication management and coaching rather than being handed between different waiting lists at every stage
Why choose AuDHD Psychiatry?

Getting the right diagnosis, done properly, matters, especially with so many private ADHD providers out there.

  • Neuro-affirming care from clinicians who understand ADHD from the inside
  • Reports accepted by most GPs, schools, employers and Access to Work
  • Rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot from 130+ reviews
  • Led by clinicians who have ADHD and autism themselves, not just professional knowledge of them
  • In-house prescribing if you need it, so a diagnosis isn’t just a report with nowhere to go
How can an ADHD diagnosis help?

A clear diagnosis is a tool, not just a label. It helps explain why things like focus, organisation, motivation or emotional regulation have been a struggle, and it points you toward support that actually fits rather than generic advice.

A diagnosis can open the door to:

  • The right treatment options: medication if you choose it, plus coaching and other support built around how ADHD shows up for you, not a one-size-fits-all approach
  • Workplace adjustments: reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act, workplace needs assessments, and ADHD-specific coaching or tools
  • Educational support: exam arrangements, learning support plans, and access to disability or additional learning services
  • Less self-blame: many people describe diagnosis as a relief, giving language to lifelong experiences instead of feeling like they’re just not trying hard enough
  • A stronger case for other support: a recognised diagnosis can help when applying for local authority services, social care or financial support where it applies

2. Comprehensive ADHD Assessment

A full, structured ADHD assessment built around the DIVA-5, a well-validated diagnostic interview.

  • How ADHD shows up for you now, and growing up
  • Focus, energy, emotional regulation and everyday life
  • Carried out to a standard recognised by GPs, employers and universities

Alongside your assessment, a psychologist leads a separate developmental history interview, drawing on the memories of a parent, caregiver or someone who’s known you a long time.

A clinical or counselling psychologist leads the main assessment, with input from a second psychologist or nurse, and everyone’s findings are brought together and reviewed as a whole by our clinical team.

3. Outcome, report and feedback

Your case is reviewed by our clinical team together, so your outcome reflects more than one professional’s perspective.

We talk you through what we found and what it means, in plain language, with time for your questions and no rush. Because we’ve gone through everything with you along the way, there’s nothing at the end you won’t have seen coming.

You’ll get a short letter confirming your diagnosis the day after your assessment, so you’re not left waiting for the essentials. Your full written report follows within two weeks, ready to use with your GP, school, employer or Access to Work.

If medication could help, our in-house prescribers can start and manage it directly, so you won’t need to go and find your own. Prefer to stay with your GP? We can arrange shared care with them instead.

Alongside medication, we offer post-diagnosis coaching support from specialist neurodivergent psychologists, giving you practical, day-to-day help with the parts of life a diagnosis alone doesn’t solve.

ADHD Assessment FAQs

ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. People with ADHD often have busy, fast-moving brains, and may:

  • Find it hard to concentrate on things that don’t interest them
  • Feel restless or impulsive
  • Think quickly and feel things intensely
  • Struggle with waiting, or with following multi-step instructions

There are real strengths that often come with it too, including fast, creative thinking, energy and enthusiasm, flexibility, and natural leadership or communication skills. ADHD doesn’t mean someone is lazy or not trying, it’s a different way the brain works, with both challenges and genuine strengths.

No single test can diagnose ADHD on its own. Instead, we use a structured combination of clinical interviews, validated questionnaires such as the DIVA-5, and clinical observation, carried out by a multidisciplinary team of psychologists and psychiatrists. You can also be assessed through public healthcare services, but going private typically means faster access to experienced clinicians, along with a comprehensive report, personal feedback, and support after diagnosis. Every assessment follows NICE guidance and is diagnosed against the DSM-5 criteria used across the UK and internationally.

No, a GP referral isn’t required. You can book any of our assessments directly through our website, and we’ll confirm your appointment straight away, with no waiting for a referral or approval from anyone else.

You’ll typically be seen within a week of booking, not the months-long waits that are common elsewhere. Once your appointment is confirmed, we’ll guide you through everything you need beforehand, including any forms or questionnaires, so you’re fully prepared when the day arrives.

No – we’re a fully online service, so it doesn’t matter where in the UK you’re based. Assessments are carried out over video call by the same clinicians and to the same clinical standard as an in-person appointment, without the need to travel or wait for a local service near you.

It isn’t a strict requirement. Input from someone who knew you growing up, such as a parent, sibling, or close friend, can add helpful context, particularly since ADHD is usually present from childhood even if it wasn’t picked up on at the time. If that isn’t possible for you, we can still carry out a thorough assessment using your own account, our clinical observations, and any other information available to us.

This is a common concern, and it’s something our clinicians are trained to look out for. Masking – consciously or unconsciously hiding traits to appear more ‘typical’ – is common in ADHD, especially in adults who’ve spent years compensating. We don’t rely only on how you present on the day; we also draw on your lifelong history, questionnaires, and, where available, informant input. If you know you tend to mask, it’s worth mentioning this to your clinician directly, as it helps us build the fullest possible picture.

Many of the things we assess for, like anxiety, emotional overwhelm, attention difficulties, or social challenges, can have a number of different causes, including:

  • Anxiety or low mood
  • Learning differences
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Stressful life events
  • Needs that have gone unrecognised for a long time

That’s why we take our time and care over every diagnosis, rather than reaching for a label that doesn’t quite fit. If ADHD doesn’t seem to be the right explanation for you, we’ll explain our reasoning, offer recommendations to support you, and point you toward any other assessment or service that makes more sense, so you leave with a clearer understanding either way.

Our reports are accepted by most GPs, schools, employers, and Access to Work. That said, how an individual organisation chooses to act on a report is ultimately down to their own policy, so it’s worth checking directly with them if you have a specific requirement.

Yes. If medication could help, you won’t need to go and find your own prescriber – our in-house prescribers work through titration with you directly, starting at the right dose and adjusting it together, then continue reviewing and prescribing every month afterwards. If you’d rather stay with your GP, we can arrange shared care with them instead. Alongside medication, we also offer dedicated ADHD coaching, giving you practical, day-to-day support for the parts of life a diagnosis alone doesn’t solve.

If you’ve already had an assessment elsewhere, we can review your existing report and talk through your options. That might mean a second opinion, ongoing support, or shared care going forward – whatever’s most useful for you.

Yes. We offer payment plans through Klarna, letting you split the cost into 3 monthly payments, so cost doesn’t have to be a barrier to getting assessed.
