Registered Mental Health Nurse Prescriber

Julie Emma Connell is a highly experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse Prescriber specialising exclusively in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment, diagnosis, medication titration, and ongoing management of ADHD.

Julie works across both NHS Right to Choose pathways and private sector services, delivering comprehensive, evidence-based ADHD assessments using validated diagnostic tools and structured clinical interviews. She is highly skilled in developing clear diagnostic formulations and producing detailed clinical reports aligned with NICE guidance, supporting accurate and timely diagnoses.

Alongside assessment work, Julie provides safe and effective medication titration, including baseline screening, physical health monitoring, and ongoing evaluation of efficacy and tolerability. She has extensive experience prescribing and managing both stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medications, supporting individuals throughout their treatment journey while maintaining robust clinical governance and safety standards. She works closely with GPs to facilitate shared care agreements and ensure continuity of care.

Julie adopts a neuro-affirmative, trauma-informed approach, with a strong commitment to compassionate, person-centred care. She places particular emphasis on delivering clear psychoeducation and practical support, enabling individuals and families to develop a deeper understanding of ADHD and feel confident in managing it.

In addition to her clinical expertise, Julie brings significant leadership experience from her role as Team Manager within an NHS Specialist Triage, Assessment and Referral Service. She led the development of the service from inception, designing clinical pathways, establishing governance frameworks, and overseeing service delivery. She has extensive experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams, maintaining high standards of clinical practice, and driving quality improvement initiatives. This leadership background enhances her ability to deliver safe, effective, and well-governed ADHD care within both independent and collaborative settings.

Her earlier experience in Crisis and Home Treatment services further strengthens her clinical judgement, risk assessment, and ability to work with complex and high-risk presentations. Julie is confident working autonomously while also contributing meaningfully within multidisciplinary teams to ensure holistic and high-quality care.

Julie holds a BSc in Mental Health Nursing and a BA (Hons) in Crime and Criminal Justice. She is a qualified Independent Prescriber (V300) and has completed specialist training with UKAAN in both the assessment, diagnosis, and pharmacological treatment of ADHD.
